Live Compare tracks changes by comparing two screenplay files and marking differences on the right-hand margin with plusses for additions, minuses for deletions, and asterisks for other changes. These markers are also shown in previews and prints.
You need two different versions of your screenplay: the one you're editing and the version you're comparing against. If you save different versions frequently, Live Compare will be more useful.
You can enable Live Compare by selecting 'Choose File' from the Live Compare pop-up menu to compare with an existing file, or by choosing 'Save a Copy and Start Live Compare' to create a new version and compare it with the previous one.
Yes, Live Compare can help you review and incorporate changes from a collaborator by showing the differences between the current document and the Live Compare document.
Yes, when you enable Live Compare, the name and location of the Live Compare document are stored in your screenplay file. If you save the file and quit Slugline, Live Compare will still be active when you reopen the file.
You can click on the change markers in the right-hand margin to examine the changes in detail. The Live Compare pop-up also has up and down arrows to navigate from one change to the next. The Outline Navigator shows change markers on the left margin as well.
No, Live Compare only shows the changes. To revert a change, you can manually copy the text from the 'before' view in the pop-up and paste it into your screenplay. The change markers will disappear if done correctly.
