Books are available in BookReader format, usually in PDF and ePub formats. BookReader editions can be read online immediately in your web browser without special software.
You can borrow up to ten books at a time from Open Library. Loans are for one hour for browsing and/or 14 days if the book is fully borrowable.
If you borrowed a BookReader edition, you can return it early from your Loans page. For other formats, early return is not possible, but the book will be automatically returned at the end of the loan period.
You can view all the books you've checked out by visiting the Loans page under your Open Library Account at https://openlibrary.org/account/loans.
Yes, you can add yourself to a waiting list for a book that is checked out. When the book is returned and available, you will receive an email and have 24 hours to check it out before it becomes available to the next person on the list.
