FAQ
GeneWeb records parents in couples. If a GEDCOM file only has the father or mother, GeneWeb adds the other parent with a question mark as the first name and surname, leading to a higher count.
GeneWeb prunes relationship links to avoid overwhelming displays. When a common ancestor is found, all ancestors of that ancestor are removed from the search. This means some valid relationships may not appear.
These persons are considered 'dead-ends' in GeneWeb. They cannot be spouses if they are children, cannot have parents if they are spouses, and cannot have associated notes. Avoid naming persons '?' if you want them to be linkable.
GeneWeb uses three states for death indication: 'alive,' 'died,' and 'don't know.' Ages are only displayed for 'alive' persons. For persons over 80, GeneWeb defaults to 'don't know' unless specified otherwise.
Check the log file of your HTTP server (e.g., Apache) for details. A common issue is access rights, ensure the web server has permission to run GeneWeb files, including 'gwd.'
Certain fields are only considered under specific conditions. For example, if a person is marked 'alive,' death-related fields are ignored. Similarly, selecting 'separated' in a family form ignores the divorce date.
This error occurs when importing a GEDCOM file with inconsistent data (e.g., someone being their own ancestor). Recreate the database from the GEDCOM file and check the import logs for details.
Ensure 'gwsetup' is running, it must stay open for GeneWeb to function. If Windows doesn't recognize 'localhost,' try '127.0.0.1.' Also, disable automatic internet connection or use a different browser like Firefox.
