Apache iota is an open-source system designed to orchestrate IoT devices, providing tools for managing and coordinating connected devices. Originally incubated at Apache, the project focused on enabling seamless IoT device management. The project retired in 2018 but left a foundation for IoT orchestration solutions.

Any Apache PMC can sponsor a project. Once approved, the Incubator PMC and assigned mentors oversee progress. The project submits quarterly updates until the IPMC approves graduation.
The target project’s PMC must vote to accept the donation. If approved, the Incubator handles the code under IP clearance procedures before incubation begins.
Issue trackers lack the legal archival requirements and authentication needed for incubation status. SVN is used for authoritative, formal tracking to ensure compliance and accountability.
